CLP Explained

CLP Explained

What is it?
CLP stands for Classification, Labelling and Packaging. This is a European Union regulation which states that all substances and mixtures need to be labelled according to EU regulations, based on the Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

CLP Regulation requires chemicals to be classified for their hazards and their packaging labelled accordingly.

From 1st June 2015 candles, wax melts, and other home fragrance products such as reed diffusers are now covered by this regulation. This means that all fragranced wax products and items such as scented sachets, reed diffusers and aroma beads which have been purchased in the UK need to follow strict labelling guidelines. There are no exceptions!

You will find this information on all of our fragranced products produced since 1st June 2015, as well as on our website. This includes a list of significant sensitizers, along with relevant warnings and precautionary statements.

Every fragrance has its own Safety Data Sheet, so every product label will look different. Whilst some of the information on the labels seems a bit scary, this is entirely for the protection of our customers.

Do the products have to be labelled?
We know they don't exactly look pretty, but yes!  Every single product that contains even the tiniest amount fragrance needs to be correctly labelled.  This is a legal requirement, and failure to do so will render insurance invalid.
